Aaron Eckhart plays the role of Marine Staff Sergeant Michael Nantz. On the verge of retirement Nantz is called back to action to help defend Los Angeles from an invading alien force determined to wipe out the human race and steal our resources.

This is your basic alien invasion movie, a plot which has been done countless times before. There isn’t anything new or exciting in this movie which made any sort of lasting impression. It’s a plot that has been kicked to death and revived more times that I can remember or care to. This film isn’t nearly as bad as the garbage film titled Skyline so it has that going for it. This is the kind of film you can enjoy if you are suffering from insomnia because you’ll definitely end up falling asleep.

This movie was directed by Jonathan Liebesman who is best known for, well, he hasn’t done anything good. This is more of the same mildly entertaining, run of the mill, pg-13 loving, mindless fare that Hollywood has been shoving down our throats for the last few years.

Aaron Eckhart plays aging combat veteran Sgt. Michael Nantz . Nantz is about to retire when he is called into active duty to help save the world from and evil alien horde bent on wiping out the human race and stealing our valuable resources. What? You have heard of this plot line before? That’s because it has been done to death.

The movie does have some good action scenes and some nice tension at points but it’s like bubble gum; it loses its flavor quickly and you are left chewing on something very bland. The best way to describe this film is that it’s like spending two hours watching someone else play a cool video game and its never your turn.

I started watching this film later on in the evening. I was doing the head bob for a little bit and finally fell asleep. I woke up about 20 minutes later and I didn’t feel as though I had missed a thing. It’s that kind of movie.

I am not going to say the movie is unwatchable, it’s the kind of thing you might sit through some Sunday afternoon on TBS and not feel ripped off but, I would not go out of my way to catch this movie.

Staff Sgt. Michael Nantz( Aaron Eckhart) has just had his retirement approved when all hell breaks loose in Los Angeles and all coastal cities of the world.  The world is under attack by aliens that use our water to power their machines and themselves.

Staff Sgt.Nantz is under the command of a newly graduated Lieutenant Martinez who has yet to have real life action and as the film progresses Lieutenant Martinez is overwhelmed and leans on the help of Sgt. Nantz  to get the crew out of harm’s way and save as many civilians as possible.  Many of the world’s defenses have been demolished and it is up to this crew to save the city and the world.

Battle Los Angeles is not innovative or fresh. It is the same movie we have seen several times but if you enjoyed “Independence Day” you will certainly enjoy this movie.  The action is intense for the first half an hour but then repeats and fades throughout the rest of the film.  There is nothing new here, unlike District 9 where you have a different view point this is a straight action movie with decent special effects, decent characters, and the same old world against the aliens.  We win the fight on the back of a few marines.

I give it 1 ½ guys.
