So this is another one of the “see it before it’s in the theater” movies that seems to draw me in like a moth to a flame (See my reviews of 13 Assasins and Hobo with A Shotgun). I just can’t seem to stay away from them.

Trollhunter is supposed to be one of those “found footage” movies. If you have seen The Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield, or Cannibal Holocaust then you know what I am talking about. This one is not quite so brutal with the shaky cam but it is definitely in same vein.

The plot revolves around a group of three college students who decide to investigate a mysterious bear poacher in the area as part of a school project. They begin to track the bear poacher and follow him on his trips out into the woods. It turns out that he is not hunting bears though he is hunting… wait for it…Trolls.

I have to admit I actually enjoyed this movie. There are some truly tense scary moments and quite a bit of comedy thrown in as well. The CGI on the Trolls is impressive for a movie with such an obviously low budget. This one is is not going to appeal to everyone but, if you are a fan of horror films, and you are interested in trying something off the beaten path, you might just enjoy this one.

Oh yeah, one caveat here. This movie was filmed in Norway so you will have to read some subtitles.
