Full disclosure here, I saw this movie previously. I am the one who picked the movie and I did it because I wanted to see what the other guys thought of it. I really enjoyed this film and I think it’s one of the best examples from the genre I have seen in a past few years.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Tom and 20 something employee at a greeting card company. He meets Summer, (Zooey Deschanel) when she starts working at the company and falls for her right away.

The two begin dating and the rest of the movie explains how the relationship falls apart over the next 500 days. It uses a series of flash forwards and flash backs like the television show Lost to give us glimpses into how things went from good to breakup.

Both the main actors are excellent in this one and performances are top notch all the way around. Director Marc Webb was mostly known for doing music videos before this film and he brings a lot of the techniques with him to this film. The flashback/forward editing and some really clever scenes including a dance sequence set to Hall and Oates make this movie an entertaining watch.

Unless you married your High School sweatheart I think just about everyone will be able to relate to this story of a relationship that has gone bad. This is more of a movie about coming to grips with a failed relationship and finding  a way to move on then it a love story.

This movie gets a strong recommendation from me. Three guys all the way.
