Black Swan is a perfect mix of beauty and horror; a visually stunning and emotional journey between the black and white, the good and bad, and the structured and chaotic.

Nina(Natalie Portman) has finally landed the role of her life after many years of  blood, sweat and tears in a New York Ballet Company, the lead role in a new rendition of Swan Lake.  Nina has what it takes to be the white swan but has to journey into a world she knows little of to become the white swan’s alter ego, the black swan.

There is competition from new dancer Lily (Mila Kunis) who seems to have the black swan down to a science and is very natural being dark. The overwhelming pressure from Nina’s instructor Thomas(Vincent Cassel) and her overbearing mother (Barbara Hershey) has put strain on Nina as she tries for perfection.

This movie is sexual and as you watch this movie there are points in which you feel uneasy.  Portman and Kunis are perfect counterparts in this twisted, surreal journey and the scenes when they are together are uncomfortable in the best way possible.  Hershey is great as the overbearing mother and is involved in one of the most “anti-climactic” moments in the film.

Arnofsky delivered the goods in this film, his directing was perfect.  The cast was perfectly selected and I cannot overstate Portman’s job as Nina, she was great. Add Kunis, Hershey and Cassel and you have a great movie.  I give it 3 guys, easy.
